Hiking boots in Argentina

Interest forums / Trekking & Mountaineering

Is it possible - I'm guessing it is but just checking - to buy reasonable quality hiking/walking boots in Argentina at a reasonable price. I say this as it would make more sense to buy some out there rather than lug a pair from the UK.
Also if anyone has any tips for a single male taking his first foray into hiking in Argentina/Chile I would be most appreciative. I'm obviously realistic and do not expect to be scaling mountains, but I would like to do some short hikes.

I think prices for imported stuff, like climbing/trekking gear, are quite high in Argentina. Probably cheaper in Chile. Also large sizes may be difficult to find.

I have not been to Chile, but I disagree with comment #1 regarding Argentina. In Buenos Aires, you can find a lot of imported trekking gear at the same prices or perhaps a few dollars more than you would in say the US. The prices are decent. There are also a whole host of nacional companies that sell trekking gear at reasonable prices. In addition to BA, I have found good quality shops in Bariloche. I am not sure about other places. Happy Trekking.
