Hi :)Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus
In a year's time I will be spending 5 days in Romania, travelling from Budapest to Brasov and then to Constanta. Is there an easier way of getting to Constanta from Brasov than going through Bucarest? I can't seem to find any railway connections between the two towns.
Definitely not full of British people. There is a clubbing scene, but 90% local Romanians. Greetings from the UK, where thanks to our rubbish currency most people are staycationing this year. | 1
Is there an easier way of getting to Constanta from Brasov than going through Bucarest? No. It looks like a really beautiful place, but I just want to make sure that's not the case! It's not the case! I don't want to be impolite to say it's ugly, but it isn't beautiful that's sure. (On the other hand I live in landlocked country and any city that has a seashore is beautiful for me. If that's the case with you than you'll enjoy it, but I could easily list 100+ more beautiful coastal towns in Europe.) | 2
in high summer there will be some summerrelief trains Direct Brasov-coast, as these exist from ANY major ROM town. Direct-for those who dont know proper enlgish-means HAS stops-but no change (US call that a ''1 seat ride'')-obviously these trains also go via/along Bucu-but do not go in+out reverse in the main gara Nord-they use the goods avoiding lines | 3
Not really, though there some direct buses that don't pass through Bucharest (check some schedules here - if you don't mind traveling at night, the one leaving at 2.30AM might be a good option). There's also one direct train from Brasov to Constanta that doesn't pass through Bucharest, but it's not much faster than the two that go through Bucharest (mentioned above by Bmta).
Romanian train timetables are available on infofer.ro.
Constanta itself isn't a resort, it's primarily a major port city, but it does have easy access to the resorts south and north of it (the most important is Mamaia). If you count all these resorts as a single area, then yes, there's a large club scene.
If you're talking about Constanta itself - it does have several very interesting historical sites, but like I've said, it's more of a trade/industrial city than a touristic one. You should try to go further north from Constanta, along the eastern end of the Danube Delta, that's a much more beautiful area. | 4
Thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated :) | 5
