Help me be romantic in Spain

Country forums / Western Europe / Spain

Hi there,

I am meeting my girlfriend in Spain on July 10 and we are spending 10 days together in Barcelona and San Sebastian. Having not been with her for the past 3 months I want it to be special but also relatively inexpensive as neither of us have too much money to spend.

Does anyone know of a place in Barcelona where we may be able to relax in a quite but fun and intimate environment??????

Help and suggestions please!!!

Cheers,

Andrew

Romance with no cash... oh dear :-(

I'd head for the Pyrenees. Nature is free.

In barcelona, couples everywhere are getting romantic. I assume you mean you want a place to snog or a bit more when you say 'romantic'. Try

Any bar
Any cafe
Any street corner
Any public square
Beside any fountain
On any step
Any bench
Any park
Any bus stop
Any bus
Any metro station
Any metro train
Any beach
Any nightclub
Any crowded street
Any market
Any shop
Any tourist attraction

The only difficulty is that you will have to squeeze in through the other couples, crowds, thousands of tourists....

When you´re in the center of Barcelona (La Rambla) Try La Fonda if you want to eat. My girlfriend and I go there all the time, it´s very good value, and the service is great too. You get great food and service for no more than 10-20 euro per person (drinks are expensive though).

As for romantic and cheap things to do during the day try Gnarly Charly bike tours; they have the coolest bikes in Barcelona and you cant rent them for about 4 euro per hour, take them to the nearby ´Parc de la Cuitadella´ (also on the map) or the beach and take a picnic, cheap as chips and good fun too.

Day trips to the Pyranees mountains are also pretty romantic, provided you and your girl like to excercise, I wish mine did :D

Shop at the market, get some stuff for a picnic, and head to a park (there are many) or beach and have a picnic. There will be loads of kids around though so you will have to keep your clothes on and save the heavy stuff for your hotel room.

I live in San Sebastian.

If weather is good, you can shop food at the market/supermarket, and take the little boat going to the island in the middle of the bay (isla de Santa Clara) (the boat leaves from the old port) and take her away for a picnic and a swim in the open sea.
Or do the same plan going up to Igeldo or Urgull.
The views are really nice and the sunset from there is amazing :)
I also like going to Paseo Nuevo and sitting down there and watching the sunset, which is amazing from there.

If you want a nice dinner, you could go to Kaskazuri (www.kaskazuri.com) which is a very nice and not very expensive restaurant (you need to book in advance though). but it's worth a try!

In Barcelona: my favorite romantic places are

- the cloister of the cathedral
- Plaza Sant Felip Neri (now that the graffiti has been cleaned up, or so they tell me)
- most of the Barri Gotic
- Parc Guell in the early morning before the tourist hordes arrive.

Romantic places are what you make of them and who you are with. Have fun. Send pictures. :)

What sort of budget are you looking at for accommodation?

Under £50 would be good. Cheaper is better.

So thats about 70 euro. You will probably be looking at a pension then. Last time we were in Barcelona we stayed here and thought it was really good. Its in a really nice old building and in a fantastic location! The reception was very friendly and we had a great little balcony in our room that we could people watch from. The price function on the website isnt working but I think from memory we paid 40 euro for a double with shared bathroom.

Pensión Edorta in San Sebastian is nice and a good quality/price.
