If your looking for a reasonable place to stay...try TRopical Bungalows, Relax Beach Resort or Viking Natures Resort. I stayed at Tropical Bungalows, its a bit shabby getting there but once your there the place is cozy with a pool (but we wouldn't swim in it-looks too dirty), a cute little bar and its very quiet (no loud music or partyers). You are within walking distance (about 5-7 minutes to the central area) so its great. The price is right- 600THB/night. The staff were friendly, but spoke very little english and had difficulty understanding us but that wasn't too much of a problem. The only complaint was that the bungalows need some repairs (its very basic with a fan). Friends/cousins stayed at the other places and they said they liked it there as well (Relax Beach Resort or Viking Natures Resort).

My two favourite cheapies on Phi Phi are Phi Phi Hill above Long Beach and Toh Koh Resort on the laid back east coast. But there are plenty of others - maybe you could check the 2 PHI PHI pages here -

Phangan - check info and pix on Mai Pen Rai/Plaas Hat Sadet, White Wind Thong Nai Pan, Tree House Hat Thong Reng and maybe Lighthouse near Leela Beach, Hat Rin on my 2 PHANGAN pages. Plenty of others.
