Hanoi to Ba Be

Put this in the wrong thread before.

We're trying to get from Hanoi to Ba Be national park independently without joining an organised tour. ANy suggestions?

Thanks. I missed this trip when I was in Hanoi because I couldn't get any info, but later someone said I should have gone via Thai Nguyen where there's a really good minority museum. I'd love to hear about the trip if you do manage to go.

There was a report a while back that Cuong is no longer renting out bikes from his shop. Shame if it's true, he was a Hanoi institution. Can anyone confirm?
