Greek Islands

Country forums / Western Europe / Greece

Hi,

Please help me i am planning to spend 17 nights in the Greek Islands in June next year. Which island do you recommend? and how long at each?? also should i book my hotels/hostel now or wait??

What are your interests and what is your budget? No one can recommend an island without knowing the answers to those questions. Recommend you first do some research in guidebooks and internet, learning about the different island groups and which islands have the things (ie beaches, sports, hiking, antiquities, scenery, nightlife, quiet villages, etc) you are looking for. A good website to start with is Matt Barrett, and a good guidebook is Thomas Cook's Greek Island Hopping. Then come back on Thorn Tree to ask more specific questions about the islands on your shortlist. You have plenty of time - now is way too soon to think about booking hotels or hostels. In fact, you don't have to book at all - there is plenty of accommodation available in June, and the best deals are had by those who find their rooms upon arrival on each island.

Yes it does help if you specify your interests etc because some islands do have a certain atmosphere, attractions or draw a specific crowd. But i would definitely recommend Santorini. It has gorgeous scenery, a very nice relaxing holiday atmosphere, good shopping/nightlife/restaurants and there are daytrips etc you can do too.

Santorini is a MUST!! the right mix of great night life and relaxing in the sun! the beach bars are amazing and the island is easy to navigate on four wheelers!! If you go here head up to 'Ia' to watch the most amazing sunset in the world!

Paros is nice too but a smaller and much quieter version of Santorini.
