Granada and restaurants

I'm taking my girlfriend for a weekend away to see the alhambra and would love any ideas for a nice restaurant for a good unpretentious meal on a saturday night. Nothing formal, just good food and a relaxed atmosphere. Thanks for any suggestions........

Alhabaca - a little mesón (inn) in a century-old building. Owner Javier Jiménez seats 30 diners at 10 tables in an old-fashioned restaurant decorated in a rustic style with bare white walls. The traditional dishes he serves are unpretentious and tasty, especially the salmorejo (creamy tomato gazpacho) and ensalada de dos salsas (a green salad with two dressings). The stuffed salmon is marvelous, as is pastel de berenjena con salmón marinado (layered pastry with eggplant and marinated salmon).

Las Tinajas - This restaurant, a short walk from the cathedral, is named for the huge amphorae depicted on its facade. For more than 3 decades it has been the culinary showcase of José Alvarez. The decor is classical Andalusian, with wood walls adorned with ceramic tiles and pictures of old Granada. Diners are surrounded by antique ornaments interspersed with modern elements and fixtures. There's a convivial but crowded bar where both locals and visitors order Andalusian wines and a wide variety of delicious tapas. To start, try the cold zucchini-and-almond cream soup or the white beet stuffed with ham and cheese. Follow with a delectable monkfish cooked with local herbs or the peppered sirloin steak. Desserts include Moorish cake with almonds and raspberries, made from a recipe left over from the days of the sultan, and a hearty regional pudding with coffee-flavored cream.

There is a selection of outdoor restaurants on the Plaza Bib-Rambla, south of the Cathedral. My favourite there is Bodega Taurina. On Plaza Nueva there is Restaurant El Aguador
