| kate_4523:05 UTC24 Aug 2009 | Am going to be in mozambique for 2 weeks at the end of october and will only have time to visit one of the above mentioned national parks. Does anyone on here have any recommendations?
I'm especially interested in any community environmental education work that is done in those areas, but any reason you may have for recommending one over the other would be good to hear
Thanks

But if you are looking for solitude..., staying in the middle of nowhere..., to be the only one within the next 50miles..., in this case you should pay them a visit. ( ...take everything you'll need for the time you'll stay there with you, because presumebly you won't be able to buy anything around there !!! )

Limpopo is a relatively new park and there are still a number of communities residing in that area - I do not know whether any attempt has been made to relocate them, but I would expect that a certain amount of environmental education has been done since the fences with the Kruger Park have been dropped (in part). There are not that many roads (4x4 tracks) in the park so acess to all but a few of the communities may be difficult. Gorongosa, on the other hand, has been a national park for many years (we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to that park in 1970) and I would expect to find that if any communities have settled in the park since the civil war, they would be better versed in environmental affairs and therfore need less education than those communities in Limpopo. But then the "environmental education" that would be needed would be that concerning animal conservation more than anything else, because little else has changed. For your purposes I would opt for Limpopo.
