Gorillas - worth the $$$$Country forums / Africa / Rwanda
Can someone who has seen these gorillas in Uganda let me know your real opinion --- is one hour watching these animals worth $500?
Definitely. I would go again in a second--maybe even trek for two days. (Once you have invested the time and money to get there, you might as well do it right.) Chimp trekking costs much less, but is not as good of a value in my opinion. Peace, BB | 1
I saw them in Rwanda. It's one of the best things I have ever done. | 2
I must get to see them one day. I must, I must , I must! So many musts and so little time. | 3
Yes. Seen them a few times and always think it's worth it. | 4
A few Sarah! You very lucky bugger! All from the Rawandan side? I am jealous! | 5
From Uganda, yes would do it again in a heartbeat. Like Big bri, would have gone two days and tracked two different troops if I'd have known it could be done. Amazing animals that may not be around for the next generation.. | 6
The first time i saw gorillas, I paid 100 USD. The second time, I paid 200 USD. Whether 500 USD is worth it, is entirely up to you. | 7
Simsy - resident rates are considerably less than $500 :-) | 8
I agree with Gozone....whether it is worth it, is up to you. I feel that $500 for the privilege of spending one hour with these amazing animals is definitely worth it. It is definitely a privilege.........hope you decide to do it. | 9
Sarah, As a matter of interest, what is the resident rate for a Rawandan? Cheers and thanks. | 10
For foreign residents is it $250, for Rwandan citizens it is Frw20,000 which is c$35-$40. | 11
There is much more to Mountain Gorilla trekking, whether in Uganda or Rwanda, than simply observing them for 60 minutes. There is the hike through an incredible landscape that can last from 30 minutes to 7 hours, the cultural experience of interacting with truly dedicated guides and trackers, the satisfaction that you have contributed to preserving a species that is close to extinction, and last but not least don't forget the bragging rights. There are many ways to spend $500 of disposable income, but I would rate this above a meal for two at a great restaurant or an overnight stay at a fine hotel The choice is yours. | 12
