Good food in Cape Town

Country forums / Africa / South Africa

Just got back from a week in Cape Town and I ate some food worth writing about. First, Wang Thai in Green Point - truly exceptional Thai food - lived up to it's reputation. Second, Toni's at 88 Kloof Str. (Long turns into Kloof). Toni's is a Mozambican/Portuguese restaurant with a killer roast peri-peri chicken - cheap at half a chicken for 56 rand. They also do up killer prawns. And for lunch, I discovered a little Kurdish cafe called Baran's where they make excellent pide (middle-eastern pizza) - any three toppings for 15 rand. Don't know the address, but it's one building in from Green Square Market. There's a large dinner theatre upstairs which I didn't try and they're associated with the restaurant Mesopotamia, which very close by on Long and Church. Mesopotamia was very good and the decor traditional Kurdish, but it's a little pricey.

Toni's sounds fascinating...

Did you have any game or seafood while you were there?

I tried game and seafood while in Namibia (Joe's Beer house in Windhoek for game and the Tug in Swakopmund for seafood were both very good), but in Cape Town I went for ethnic food.
