good agents in Bangkok for Bangkok-NYC flights

Country forums / Thailand / Thailand

I need to buy a roundtrip from Bangkok to New York and back, and want it cheap. So far, no luck. Can anyone recommend a good travel agent?

Try Chawla Travel on Patpong. I have had good success with them, and they will hold a reservation for you to pick up in BKK. They have a web site that gives you an idea of prices.

i would get yourself a fare from somewhere like Thai travel centre and print it out.

i'd then take the print to some travel agents and ask them if they can come up with a better price.

nr 2 is the tipical US-never ever ventured otuside to look'person'
In OUT of the Us the OLD system applies: AIRlines will ONLY give out the official very high prices and AGENTS have access to the 'normal/low' prices. But to NYC is DIIFICULT< as its found usually cheaper to buy to West Coast (ample choice of goodservice asian airlines), then after booking find something on cheaptickets or orbitz to connect.
THAI is the ONLY one doing directs/nonstops, but as this is a premium flite, tickets for that never come cheap

STA Travel on Surawong Rd (near Silom) is very good.

bmta--thanks for the tip. Yes, fly to LA, and Orbitz to NYC. Good idea.

#2, A good agent is important:

I went to an agent this morning in BKK who told me the cheapest tickets were Korean and Thai airlines (at 49000B and 54000B respectively!). I went down the street to another airline, who said that China Airlines flew for 39,000B. I gather alot of the agents want to sell you flights that they make the most commission on, which I presume are the more expensive flights. When I walked back to the first agent, and told her about the China Airways flight, she blushed, looked it up, and said, yes, she could give me that flight for 39000.

Another point for agents, or at least bucket shops is that they buy discounted tickets from the airlines and pass on some of the savings to you, something the airlines don't seem to do much of.

thanks to all who've responded.

Having way too much experience flying NYC-BKK ... I would stay away from that China Airways flight. You will stop in Taiwan .. then Alaska ... then NYC. I dont know about Korean. I always fly to DC with them. They have good service. Thai is of course ... nonstop. If you have a choice....go with that. 54000B seems expensive ... My ticket is $1081 on Thai. Try their website and see if you can do better.
