Goa end of Oct-where to stay?

Country forums / Indian Subcontinent / India

Hi, my husband & I have just booked flights to Goa for two weeks, end of Oct (19th Oct-3rd Nov). (I’m a School teacher so tied to these dates). Our flight out there arrives at 0245 in the morning, so am thinking it would be a good idea for us to book our first couple of nights accommodation, just so we can go somewhere straight from the airport at that time of night/morning, so we’re wondering where might be the best place to base ourselves on arrival for the first two nights? We plan to travel around whilst there to see parts of north & South Goa. I’ve read that the north is a lot busier & more ‘touristy’ than the south, but should we be concerned about this so early in the season? We’re going for the nice beaches & also we love wreck dives & have read there are a lot of them about. Whilst we don’t want all night parties, we don’t want anywhere too quiet, especially with it being early in the season. Any recommendations would be greatly received on where might be a good place to start our trip, thanks!

Probably you should spend your first couple of nights in South Goa, someplace like Colva beach, so you'll have a short trip from the airport in the middle of the night. Colva is only 1/2 hour from Goa airport, and I'm sure there are places you could reserve on that coast that are even closer to the airport. Basically that part of the south Goa coast is one enormous wide sand beach that stretches uninterrupted for more than 20kms.

Goa is not just about the crowded beaches, the busy narrow lanes, the happening bars with affordable booze and Goan seafood yummy-ness. It is so much more than the usual commercial spots buzzing and sizzling. Goa is also a place of traditional Portuguese architecture, history, peace and quiet. For a first timer and young traveller visiting Goa, North is a safe choice because it gives you so many choices and variety. Hotels and bed and breakfast variety is not even funny. During your North trip to Goa, you have to visit a bit more secluded and less crowded spots such as Morjim/Ashwem beaches.

Hello
I have just joined this forum - so sorry for hijacking the thread (searched for goa and this was the most recently active).

I am not a backpacker or traveller as such. All holidays have been 5star but a recent separation and business trip to bengaluru (bangalore) from the UK has me tempted to spend a free weekend I have in goa in early march. I was looking at a hotel in north goa but a friend suggested a hostel so i can group up with others instead of being alone. I have never done this but the thought excited me!

I am looking at a flight that arrives late at night and wanted to know if it's still possible to check in to a hostel so late? How does it work? Any advice on hostels would be ace. Recommendations for a secure one that is popular and close to a beach would also be welcome!
Looking to party and just kick back for 2 days!
Thanks

Do you want your own room in this hostel - or are you prepared to stay in a dormitory?

close to a beach

How close?

Hi thanks for the reply, I am happy staying in a dormitory for the full experience be it mixed or male only. No bother. As long as there are security lockers for valuables im good. As for the beach, walking distance? At the most cycling distance.
