Getting to Jordan - suggestion

Country forums / Middle East / Jordan

I've searched till Aug 26, 2012, no threads dealing with this argument and older discussion aren't useful.

What do you suggest to me? i can't understand why flights are so expensive, even from Istanbul which is near. The cheapest one I've found leaves from London gatwick and it costs about 100 pounds.

Is there any town from whom the flight isn't expensive?
Or, is there any connection by sea from Cyprus?

The matter is that the adjacent countries aren't recommended place to visit (according to my country's news), so I can't consider them as a stop-over.

100 quid doesn't sound all that bad given it's a 5 hour flight. If you can find a cheap flight to Israel or Egypt then it's relatively easy to travel overland from either to Jordan but the costs of doing this would need to be factored into any decision not to fly directly. There used to be a ferry from Athens to Haifa which stopped at Cyprus but I gather hasn't been running for some years. Lots of flights though from Cyprus to Israel as it's the nearest place for Israelis to get civil marriages in cases where the religious authorities won't let them.

There's an EasyJet flight out of Gatwick to Amman which is advertised at JD125. The RJ and Egypt Air flights from Cairo to Amman were about JD230/one way--three years ago (so they're probably more now).

Easyjet is probably going to be as cheap as you get. You could consider flying into Israel. The dates you fly will also make a big difference. To honest though I agree with #1 £100 for a 5 hour flight is reasonable.
