getting Iran visa in australia

Country forums / Middle East / Iran

HI all, I am at the stage where I was going to be sending off for an Iran visa in the next few weeks, I have been there once before 3 years ago, anyone had any (very or otherwise) recent experiences getting a visa from the Canberra embassy? Has anyone been knocked back or has it been quite simple? How long has it taken? (I am not going to get an auth number first) I have been there once before so I don't know if that lengthens the process.

Also I was going to just send off the information in registered post myself, is this beneficial or detrimental in any way compared with just giving to Flight Centre to courier it off (who charge $20)?

I won't leave till October but I am thinking it's possible I might just wait and get one at the airport, & hope they are still doing the visas-on-arrival in October for Aussies. If for some reason my visa application was rejected at the aus embassy, does that mean I won't be able to get one at the border?

thanks for any info, PM me if you'd prefer. J.

Hi,
Correct me if I am wrong but It was you, I think , who asked the same questions a while back! if you are not going to spend more than 2 weeks in the country, you should go for the instant airport visa and avoid the Iranian embassy bureaucracy in Canberra altogether! However I must say I am not sure the said visa could actually be extended! I have been trying to find out but I have been very busy recently. Meanwhile if you plan to stay in the country a month or longer, maybe you should for the 'regular' visa. and what is wrong with paying a small fee to make sure you will have that 'prized' authorization code? Good luck.

Well I've participated in threads about the airport visa but haven't asked this question before. I would of course rather have the visa on me for reassurance before I get on any plane because who knows if this airport visa will be taken back for Australians before October. If I can be pretty sure of getting on in Aus beforehand I'd rather do that but maybe I will just wait for the airport. As for the auth code, where would one obtain that from? Iranianvisa has had bad reviews lately I am not sure about them, anywhere else?

hi,
I doubt the instant airport visa for Australians would be taken back unless a war breaks out between Iran and US or something like that!
I know as much as you do; hence I cannot endorse any Iranian travel agency as far as getting visa is concerned. But last year I good things about 'keys2 persia' and some other travel agencies. Check them out. Take care.bye.

salaam
I have returned from this India/pak/UAE/Iran trip. It was excellent.Iran is safe and friendly, and everything works there unlike PAK. but it is not a free country at all.I didn't like Irani food. It is bland and boring. However I am used to South Indian,Thai, and Punjabi food.
In Rawalpindi i got my air ticket.
Compare prices between travel agents.
I flew from ISB to Abu Zhabi and then onto Tehran.I travelled overland in Iran and ended up in Shiraz as planned after 3 weeks . On arrival in Tehran at the first opportunity I went and booked an Air iran flight from Shiraz back to Tehran. That was about US$45 one way. CHEAP!
My return ticket from Pak to UAE to IRAN was w/ itahad air. They were Ok. Other options incl. flying into mashshad,Shiraz and Esfahan etc. If you can a ticket with Mahan air they fly from LHR to Iran directly via mashshad. Many pakis who are shia go to Iran/eeraun for pilgramage/'ziarat' so the direct services are often booked up .
I used iranianvisa dot com for my visa. They were good and I got my visa within a few days in LHR.I applied in advance from Australia. They work so well it is hard to believe. All will be done, don't worry.
