Getting from SPS to Copan early eveningCountry forums / Central America / Honduras
Hello All: We fly into SPS at 3 p.m. Sunday. Was wondering if it's still possible to make it to Copan that evening. Hedman has a bus that leaves at 5:30. Do you think we can get through customs in time to make it? If not, any other options? Thanks.
If you travel carry-on only, fill out your paperwork on the plane, and land at 3:00 you should be out of the airport by 3:15 or 20. Unfortunately, last I heard Hedman wasn't running that 5:30 bus anymore. There are other buses that could get you at least part way if you want to avoid SPS for the night. You could also hire a private driver to pick you up at the airport and drive you to Copán. I used Miguel Martel (504-962-00372, dial 011 first from the US) for our group in '08 and was very pleased and impressed. Check out my photos, blogs, and travelogues below and please keep us posted! | 1
Thanks for that Hope. I totally love your blog. Do you, or anyone else, happen to know which other buses go to Copan? It's just the two of us, and I don't want to shell out the $ for a private driver. | 2
Sorry I can't help more with that. I know Casasola runs that route but last I heard their final run left SPS at 2pm. The buses tend to not run after dark and dark happens at 6pm that close to the equator. You could email Hedman to confirm the 5:30pm run isn't operating. Chicken buses will get you part way, maybe Santa Rose de Copán. I don't blame you for not wanting to pay extra for a private shuttle, but personally, I'd pay for the shuttle rather than spend the night in SPS. I also have grown willing to spend a bit more on flights if they land at a convenient time for moving on so the 2:30pm Hedman bus has worked for me. Keep us posted! | 3
You can get bus tickets right at the airport for Hedman Alas and others. You could always try to get partway by bus, and then have less travel time the next morning. CK | 4
Hello Amanda This is my second day here. I went for a horse riding tour this morning all by myself. There isn't enough tourist here to make up most tour. I was trying to join a tour to go to hotspring or sunset mayan tour this afternoon. No luck as i am the only person to show up at the tour company. Please if you get here ask for me at the spanish school ixbalanque maybe we can go together My name is Alpha goodluck | 5
From the san pedro bus terminal leave buses about every half hour to La Entrada. In La Entrada there will be a bus waiting for you to Copan. This is the cheapest way to get to Copan and the buses run into the evening. | 6
