Getting from Mindanao to IndonesiaCountry forums / South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula
Is there any way to get to Indonesia from Mindanao without going via Manila? The flight on silk air from Davao to Jakarta via Singapore is too expensive at about 700 dollars so is there any other alternative?
Since the Indonesia consulate in Davao no longer issues tourist visas to Indonesia there is no direct route from Mindinao to Indonesia. Maybe three or four years back there was once a week flight but does not exist anymore. Must take the long route. Might look into a combo Cebu Pacific/Air Asia ticket to get to your planned destination for cheaper price than Silk Air. | 1
Don't know if this thread is any help? http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=1899429 Mentions a Sriwijaja flight from Davao to Manado as late as November 2010. Let us know how you get on as I would also potentially be interested in this route. | 2
Possibly the easiest way is to go back to Manila and get a ticket on one of the discount airlines. At one time there were flights from Manila or Clark to Jakarta for around 3000 pesos.. If you were interested in a less efficient route - you could take the ferry over to Zamboanga from Gen San and then take take a boat to Sandakan in Malaysia and carry on from there. It would be time consuming but probably pretty cool. Zamboanga to Sandakan Where in Indonesia do you want to land up? dp | 3
That all sounds exciting but the main point is that I want to avoid Malaysia as I keep reading about Filipinos being denied entry so I am worried my Filipino partner will be stopped at the airport when he tries to leave Philippines | 4
there really shouldn't be any problem flying via malaysia...especially if the ongoing destination is indonesia and you got the tickets to prove it...sure, filipinos have been rejected into malaysia, but either coz they didn't have a return ticket, enough cash on them etc so they couldn't prove they were a genuine tourist...malaysia has a huge problem with illegal immigrants, mainly from indonesia but also from the philippines... | 5
