getting from Magome to Mt Fuji

hi, I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on travelling from Magome (Nakatsugawa Station in Kiso Valley region on JR Chuo Line) to the Mount Fuji area (Kawaguchi-ko). Do I change trains at Matsumoto and again at Kofu? How far can I get using my JR pass?

Fair play for going to Magome, its a great place. Not going to Takayama??

Matsumoto is out of the way unless you want to visit the castle, although it works if you get a chuo line limited express and you do get closer to the subaru line road. I think it might be faster to go to Nagoya on the limited express and take the shinkansen there, but you're still a ways away. JR pass good on both routes.
