Getting from Aqaba to Red Sea

Country forums / Middle East / Jordan

Hi There,

I am planning on a trip next year to Jordan. Want to spend about 7-10 days doing amman, petra and would like to get to Wadi Rum if i have time. At the end of the trip i was wanting to exit out of Aqaba and make my way to Egypt and head towards Sharm-El Sheik for some scuba diving. Can you cross the dead sea here and enter into Egypt and then catch a bus or organise a driver to take you down the Sharm El Sheik?

Any info on the border crossing, ferry's/Boats, local transport would be greatly appreciated.

The cheapest and fastest way to get to eastern Sinai from Jordan is via Israel. This is always the preferred route, with 2 exceptions:
(1) You want to avoid 'Israel evidence' in your passport.
(2) The passport you're traveling on requires you to get an Israel visa in advance.
If one of the 2 exceptions applies in your case, then you must take the Aqaba-Nuweiba ferry.
In either case, public transport is available to Sharm on the Egyptian side.

1

Aqaba-Nuweibeh ferry schedule: google "Arab Bridge Maritime" for complete options. The late nite, slow ferry is constant, however some of the daytime, "fast" ferries may be cancelled for whatever reason (lack of pax, weather).
