Getting around Kiev during the Euro's

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Ukraine

Hi,
I'll be in Ukraine (hopefully) for the UEFA Euro 2012. Will be arriving the third week of june and be there till after the tournament ends. I have a few questions i hope someone can answer.

  1. Whats the best and cheapest way of traveling from the International Airport to the city? I will be living around 15 kms from the football stadium.

  2. Whats the most economical way of getting around Kiev and Donetsk?

  3. I've heard match ticket holders will be able to access public transit for free, is this true?

  4. Are there any cycle on rent facilities to bike around the city?

Thanks a million.

Whats the best and cheapest way of traveling from the International Airport to the city?

Don't mix up the best and the cheapest :) The cheapest - a special airport bus, the cost is 20 UAH (about 2 EUR)

Whats the most economical way of getting around Kiev and Donetsk?

The most economical - suburban trains.

I've heard match ticket holders will be able to access public transit for free, is this true?

It's a joke :)

Are there any cycle on rent facilities to bike around the city?

Yes, but in some city parks only.

(Holders of tickets for matches in Lviv will be free to use public transport
Holders of tickets for the matches will be able to use public transport in Lviv free within 36 hours: during the day and the day off to 12.00 hours the next day. Told Media Center "Lions 2012" ....)
I do not think that this is a joke.
These messages apply to other cities.

Well, it's fine if it is so. Although I haven't heard about it as to Kiev.

I won't be there - so it doesn't bother me.
I'm just posting a link.
Can't stand footy.

Thanks for the info. I am not surprised at the free travel to the venues on match days, they did the same thing for the FIFA World Cup in SA back in 2010.

4. Are there any cycle on rent facilities to bike around the city?
There may be one or two but I wouldn't recommend cycling on Kiev's roads, you will have a severe accident within minutes either because of totally crazy car drivers or bad road conditions

Public transport is extremely cheap, the underground brings you to most place at almost no cost (less then half a euro per trip)

Oh haha ok gotcha. So similar to here in India. I know exactly how it works then.
