getting a visa to ghana

im a canadian currently in egypt trying to get to ghana.

for a week now ive been trying to get on my flight but am constantly told i dont have the right paperwork (either a visa or a letter saying i will be approved on arrival). the ghana embassy here will not issue one because i do not have egyptian residency. canada wont issue one either because they dont have my actual passport.

has anybody figured out how to get around this? i am flying ethiopian airlines.. are all airlines so stuck on seeing a visa before hand? is it possible to get a visa on arrival still?

Hey! I had the same problem while flying from Malawi to Ghana, also with ethiopian. I'm not sure if you can get a visa on the airport. In the Ghana embassy in Nairobi they told me that you need to have one before coming to Ghana, that's why I bought my visa in the embassy. You wait only 1 or max 3 days.

what embassy did you buy it from? the ghana embassy in cairo won't approve me for one since i havent got egyptian residency..

I just had to fill up a form, add 2 or 3 pics and pay 50USD, nobody asked for my status in Kenya. But it just the way with the African embassy, it all depends of the country where the embassy is settled. It seems that there are no general regulations. Consulate in Nairobi is safe, I tested it in March, but to be sure contact them

Officially you need to have your visa before arrival in Ghana. But a colleague of mine recently had to go there on very short notice, and as there was no time to get the visa in advance, she just flew, explained the immigration officer her story, and got her visa at the airport without any hassle (she's German).
