Thank you!

It is not too bad an itinerary Nuremburg is possibly worth more than 1 full day you will have there. The obvious thing is that you will be charged a lot of money for a one way drop off from Germany to Salzburg, not sure what one way drop off fees in Germany are but you will no doubt save money by dropping off in Berchtesgaden and taking the bus to Salzburg.

I agree with richiavo plus if you take the car to Salzburg you have to buy a Pickerl (toll sticker), so I would drop the car in Berchtesgaden and use the bavaria ticket or a single ticket to take the train to Salzburg, you can check here what is more cost efficient http://www.bahn.de/p_en/view/index.shtml for the bavaria ticket look under Laendertickets.

2

thanks for your replies. However have done some research into car hire and I can't find any providers that enable me to pick up in Nuremberg and drop off in Berchtesgaden??

3

Sixt offers a pick up in Nuernberg and drop off in Freilassing, I checked it for one day from tomorrow to day after and drop off in Freilassing 98,-- €, drop off in Salzburg 283,-- €, that is a considerable difference and I would do the little detour to safe that money.

https://www.sixt.com/ but do check yourself, could be spelling it's Nuernberg in German not with an m, Nuermberg.

There is also the option of Bad Reichenall which is pretty much on route to Salzburg.

Check www.rentalcars.com for options

Thank you both!

I have looked at Sixt. Can get for £30 a day or £36 for a convertible. Seems perfect. Can pick up in centre of Nuremberg rather than airport and drop close to Salzburg.

Have checked rental cars but cannot find anywhere that drops to bad reichenall. where did you look?

thanks again, you're a big help!

6

Oh also, I have read that a lot of people don't like Sixt.

Opinion?

Europcar - checked, cheaper £180 Nuremberg to Freilassing.

Can't thank you enough !
