From Wadi Rum to Petra and then to Dana Reserve and Madaba

Hello, next week I will be travelling in Jordan from south to the northern part of the country. After visiting Wadi Rum area I plan to go to Petra, Dana Natural Reserve and finally to Madaba. Do you know whether any local buses or shared taxis run between these destinations or will I have to hire a private taxi for every single trip? Unfortunately I don`t drive. Also are there any means of public transport from Madaba to Amman airport or will I have to go to Amman first? Thank you for your tips.

You have a bus from the Tourist Center (Wadi Rum protected area) to Wadi Musa (Petra)
You can move along the King Highway on the way to Dana and after Madaba using a mix of public transports and taxi (real or not) when you don't have any public transports for some legs of your travel. It's not difficult at all because most Jordanian do the same...
From Madaba, you can use a taxi to Queen Alia. No need to reach Amman first.

Hi, my trip went ok and I enjoyed my week in Jordan. First I took a bus from Amman to Aquaba: there are more of those from the Aqaba bound bus station in Amman. The trip took a couple of hours longer than originally expected, but otherwise ok, just be aware, that almost all locals smoke onboard. I also took travelled from Wadi Rum to Petra, eventually a travelling couple in rented car gave me a lift, but if you spend a night in a bedouin camp in a dessert, the bedouins take you to the village in the morning before the bus departs. The bus departs about 9am, its better to check beforehand. From Petra to Dana village its a bit trickier. Dana is a tiny village with no public transport, they say its possible to get by bus to some of the larger villages in the neighbourhood, but it requires at least 3 changes. Eventually I took a taxi from my hotel (5-10 JOD cheaper than the official price displayed on taxi board near entrance to Petra site), as the bus trip would have proven too complicated for me with no local acquaintance. But keep asking, maybe youll be lucky and bump into somebody over there who knows more details. Dana Nature Reservation is a beautiful place and definitely worth going for at least 3 days, especially if you like trekking and nature. But rather avoid Dana Hotel, some rooms are very, very basic and they may overcharge you for some services they offer you.
