Foreigners working in alaska??

Interest forums / The Long Haul - Living & Working Abroad

Hi People.

I am from NZ and am wanting to visit Alaska for some sort of work in the fishing industry for a short period of 4-6months. I plan to then use some of this money to travel Canada before heading into a Canadian mountain resort to look for a job ( I snowboard).

Wondering if any foreigners to USA have managed to work in Alaska. Or if any has done something similar in Canada for work. Either way I want to work for a bit to make some of their money before traveling. It seems getting visas etc is very difficult and I am unsure where to start?

Hope someone can shed some light.

Thanks, Cam

It is very difficult. There are strict regulations regarding foreign nationals entering the USA and working. It is unlikely you would qualify and highly unlikely you would get hired; especially for high paying, high demand jobs like you mention.

I would ask on the US branch since this is country specific but unless you have some experience in this sort of job, I think it highly unlikely.

You don't mention your age or your training/ experience but there are some exchange programs.
