Flying in to Mandalay or Yangon from Kunming

Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Myanmar

Does anybody have experiences with taking a flight from Kunming (Yunnan province) to either Mandalay or Yangon ? One or two Chinese airlines offer flights. How about the visa procedure for individual travellers like myself (formally only tour groups booking made it possible to arrive in Yangon by air from China) ? Is there still any complusory money exchange for arrivals from China ? Thanks in advance for your advice

There's no more compulsary money exchage from anywhere else so there shouldn't be one from China either.

You can get your FIT tourist visa at Kunming in embassy there, that has worked for plenty of people who traveled across the border to Lashio overland, so it should be fine for Yangon as well.

I think it's great eastern that flies to Mandalay. It'll save you tons of travel time and the cost will end up being similar to travelling by road since you'll have to hire service from the border to Lashio.

China Eastern is the one...they have a hub in Kunming, and use their Canadair Regional Jets for KMG-MDL flights.
