Floods - Latest situation?

So during my planning to go to S America next month, I just remembered all the news about the floods. It appears that things have eased and that everything is somewhat back to normal? I am considering (haven't booked anything yet) travelling to Peru next month (8th or 9th May) and travelling down the south coast from Lima and then eventually to Cusco.

My route will be a fairly standard backpacking route from what I believe -
Lima - south coast - Arequipa - Cusco - Puno - La Paz (ALL via Peru Hop).
La Paz - Ouro (bus) Ouro - Uyunir (train) - Uyunir salt flat tour (3d,2n) - San Pedro Atacama - Santiago (plane).
I intend to do with this within around 2- 3 months.

I potentially could do this in reverse (i.e. starting from Santiago and working my way up, thereby ending up in Peru around June/July, which I'm sure by that stage will be all sunshine and smiles and hardly any more rain?) so that gives, even more, time for the impact and aftermath of the floods to have been fully dealt with. I don't want to risk my bus flipping over as a result of flash floods or landslides when travelling by bus doing some of these longer routes.

According to the latest weather forecasts, the rains are easing and there is no danger of surprise flash floods flipping over your bus anymore. In fact, on any current report and pictures from the coast, it is all blue skies already.
