Flights to Rurrenabaque

Smoke from bush fires in the lowlands is affecting operations at most airports in Beni, including Rurrenabaque. Best check your flight status in advance.

still problems with the flights. Sitting here since 9.30, scheduled for the 10.45, but even the two flights before are not out. So be careful with tour bookings etc.

Beni, airports and Rurre / Rurrenabaque being mentioned, I want to add:

The Rurre airport has been improved recently. The old secondary runway is now paved. This work was finished in July 2010, and this paved runway is now the main runway.
The paved runway, as opposed to the grass field up to now, will allow more reliable flights. When the grass is wet, it gets slippery, the planes can't land - and in the rainy season the grass is wet fairly often...
But also low clouds can prevent planes from landing, and the nearby mountains don’t make things better.
Another hindrance can be a smokescreen from the burning of the fields in the surrounding countryside. The time of the year with this risk is August - October.
