flight from Toronto to La PazCountry forums / South America / Bolivia
Hi, there. Is there someone who can share where I find a reasonably priced flight from Toronto to La Paz? Thanks a lot.
I couldn't find anything that didn't involve an 8-hour bus ride and land border crossings. So I had to take American Airlines from Toronto to Miami, connecting to La Paz. once down there, I took some AeroSur flights while in Bolivia, and if I recall correctly, they had an international flight from Miami to La Paz (and connections to Santa Cruz, Sucre, and even Rurre, and possibly Cochabamba - not sure on that one - check their website). That might be a lot cheaper (get to Miami and then switch to AeroSur). The American Airlines return from La Paz is via Santa Cruz, then Miami, with the connecting flight direct back to Toronto. X-Rays and metal detectors on the way down to Bolivia were no more difficuly than a crossing into the U.S. The Toronto->Miami->La Paz connections were easy (as Toronto clears U.S. customs in Toronto), so baggage stayed with the airline for the connection, and I only cleared customs once (in Toronto) on the way down. However, on the return, I had to clear customs in La Paz, then again in Miami (twice!), and had to collect my luggage in Miami, and then check it back again in Miami (even though this was the corresponding flight number from the flight down to Bolivia). The customs on the way back were ultra thorough and a bit of a pain - quite a difference from the easy way down. The Toronto->La Paz (return) overall flight was pretty expensive, and it only saved something like US$25 if I was to come back from Santa Cruz. It was cheaper to go to Peru or Argentina, but lost a lot of time afterwards bussing to Bolivia. Hope the AeroSur option works out cheaper. They were a pretty good airline, and I would readily take them again. Flight Toronto->La Paz was mid November, return was early-ish December. | 1
I travel this route quite often. | 2
Thanks for the tip, schmuck! I will remember this for the future. It will probably take less time overall and save some money. | 3
You might be best off connecting in Lima - might have more options in terms of timing and cost. | 4
