Five Weeks in India July/AugustCountry forums / Indian Subcontinent / India
Hi, my friend and I are travelling to India for 5 weeks in July & August. It is for both of us our first time in India. We arrive in Delhi and have booked 2 nights in a hotel there. We had planned to go to Agra then take in Rajasthan, but due to the weather at that time of year, perhaps we are better heading North to Himachal/Ladakh? Is it going to be really unbearable in the rest of the country? Any suggestions welcome. Thanks, Natalie
yes a good idea to go up north to himachal pradesh and ladakh. if its you're first time in the mountain, read up on altitude sickness before heading to ladakh. | 1

Spend sometime in the Northeast. It's mostly mountainous and the monsoon will be on. Temperatures are quite comfortable. Bring a sweater for nights. There's few tourists beyond Darjeeling if you want to see what that looks like. Also, the population is less dense and the tribal people are more relaxed. Not you're average Indian vacation though. | 3
BTW LonelyPlanet Guidebooks know little about the Northeast. | 4
