Ferry Tasucu (Turkey)-Kyrenia Cyprus

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Turkey

Hi, why the ferry from Tasucu (Turkey) to Kyrenia (Cyprus) is called "hell boat"

The ferry boats are okay,in good condition but on that short crossing the sea can be very rough and the ferries rock and roll !

The Germans call it Kotzboot (bateau à vomir).

I think you can also take a ferry from Mersin to Famagusta(Gazimagusa). I don't know if that is any better. It looks like a small ferry and it has only seats, no cabins.

The Germans call it Kotzboot (bateau à vomir). And how long it take crossing the sea with this bateau à vomir.

4

It is roughly a 6 hour crossing.

Just one another question. I will travel with my own car, with motorhomme. After visiting Turkish part I want to cross to Greek part and after back to Turkish part, to Kyrenia and back to Tusucu. I heard that could be problems with crossing the second time to Turkish part because of being with my own car. They want quite a big amount of money. Is that true? Any experiences travelling in that way?

Thanks, I will try from Mersin but it depends on price too. As I can see, from Mersin is much cheaper. For two persons and motorhomme. We don't need cabins, so it is not a problem. Last year we were in Crete, a little longer way by ferry, it takes 9 hours.

.....but don't compare the big, modern and well organized Piraeus - Chania resp. Heraklion ferries with what's offered between Turkey and Cyprus!
