Exploring Cordoba inc Medina Azahara

Country forums / Western Europe / Spain

Could anyone suggest how many days I ought to allow to explore the main sights in Cordoba?

I'd like to visit Mezquita of course, the old town, Alcazar de los Reyes, Jewish quarter, the bridge, etc, etc, and perhaps a museum or two - at a comfortable pace with time for people watching in cafes! The town looks quite compact but it's difficult to estimate how much time to allow.

And if there are any must-see sights I've overlooked...

I'm also keen to visit the Medina Azahara but would like to do so at the end of the day when the light is better for photographs. However, I'm not sure I could do this on the buses, which don't seem to run very late in the day. Does anyone know what a taxi would charge? Any other suggestions?

Thanks all!

2 full days is ok IMHO for the stuff in the city centre....not including Medina Azahara (I haven't been there).

1½ days at a comfortable pace is enough, and this will give you the benefit of an overnight in Cordoba, which is very worthwhile. While you're in the Mezquita, try and climb the minaret on one of the timed tickets.

If you can organise transport efficiently, you can squeeze in Medina Azahara in your remaining ½ day - ask your accommodation for guidance. Overall, this may mean 2 nights in Cordoba.

If you looking for the shortest time then arrive early spend one night and leave late afternoon the next day. But you could easily spend 3-4 days wandering around, it is all about how long you have and what type of traveller you are.
