Election Time Looming....

Country forums / South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula / Philippines

For those on the ground....who is looking more likely to be the next President?

I would like to see Duterte, and certainly when I broached the subject with some friends on my recent excursion, the majority were also saying Duterte.

I try to keep up via the on line Inquirer (especially my fave columnist, Ramon Tulfo).

Any of you guys qualify to vote? Surfie, callippo, gwapo etc?

Duterte seems to be the ONLY Prexy candidate who is REALLY campaigning to get rid of criminality, corruption & drugs.
I'm for Du30...but he needs Cayetano to fully implement his plans.
So, vote for Duterte/Cayetanao tandem.

the hooligan Duterte won't win. He'll do well to come second. Hicks like him don't get to be president. Only 3 of the 15 presidents that there's been, have been born on islands other than Luzon, and none at all, for fifty years. He is a bit like the Philippines' Donald Trump, who won't become president either. Duterte is running as an outsider and a Visayan nationalist outsider to boot however don't forget there are plenty more Filipinos that aren't Visayans than those who are. And the trouble with populism is that it isn't always as popular as it can seem. Duterte does appeal to some Filipinos, mostly but not all Visayan ones, but make no mistake, a lot of Filipinos, even Visayan ones, can see straight through Duterte and won't vote for him.

because the rest of the field is relatively lacklustre, that is why Duterte is rated to have any chance at all by so many. It is not an easy election to call even though the poll is only 100 days away, but I reckon Poe - now that her disqualification has been rescinded - will emerge the winner, making the Philippines the first country ever to have had three women presidents.

@Calippo, we wait and see....
Mindanaoans in general are sick and tired of Imperial Manila...
Economic Federalism is the minimum requirement for Mindanaons...
Real Mindanao independence is looming...
Watch Duterte's Cebu rally and look for the hints.
I'm for Mindanao Independence actually. If some of the Visayas will join us then it would be merrier...

Duterte has said so many nonsensical things during the campaign so far - and it hasn't even got into top gear yet - it would be quite a task to list them all, but my favorite is when he said he will commute daily to work, to Manila from Davao and have his breakfast each day on the plane. Although he seems to accept that if he is elected president, then he can't straight away transfer the seat of government just like that from the MalacaƱang palace to his own house in Davao, he apparently doesn't want to sleep in Manila, but only work there.

he also said that he won't commute to Manila every day by commercial aircraft because obviously, even he knows that Cebu Pacific's security isn't good enough, and won't charter a jet at governmental expense to do it either. Luckily, Duterte has a pastor pal in Davao who has creamed off enough money to be able to afford his own private jet, and he'll borrow that.

its a pity you cant run for president -then we wouldnt have to read your nonsensical comments, dont all candidates talk nonsense to get elected?

irishman12...do you think callippo maybe kissed the Blarney Stone?

Actually there could be some benefits if he was President....haircuts and hot shaves would be pegged at about 15P!

Poe cannot even answer properly when duterte asked a hypotitical question during the 2nd debate. Poes first answer was wayyyy off based that people were amused. Duterte was so gentleman to repeat the question without making fun at Poe. Poes second answer was a bit amusing too...like first she has to wake up or in that manner....

I hope Duterte will win. as it is time to clean up the Philippines.
he made Davao the best city in the Philippines.

8

asean37, I also hope Duterte wins.

Critics say being Mayor of an (albeit) large City is not enough experience to become President. They have a point, but then Estrada did not even have that experience...

As an outsider looking in, I remember when Fidel Ramos became President. I thought he was the best of the bunch then, and I think Duterte is far and away the best of thebunch now...

Hope that a mindanaon candicate will win. Hope that the whole philippines will be like davao. Hate poe she is like a puppet. And binay and roxas are certified corrupt.
