Eid el Fitr

Dear thorn three forum users,
As the old topics on the matter are not available anymore, I need to ask a question that is without doubt asked countless times before. How will the situation be on and around Eid el Fitr in Egypt and how many days do the festivities take? I am interested how this affects the opening hours of tourist attractions both big and small and the effect is has on traveling, as I assume busses and trains (including the sleeping trains?) will be fully booked or overly crowded. What would be the best (non resort) city in the country to stay and wait till things pass? Thanks to you all.
