Eco Spa-CancunCountry forums / Mexico / Mexico
Hola! I'm going to visit a friend who lives in Cancun this summer and I'm looking for an eco friendly spa for a day or two retreat. I'm a native Spanish speaker, and I can't seem to find anything that's not "touristy" priced. I'm trying to avoid the resorts and the cheap local places. I would like something more low key and authentic. Thanks!
I suggest that ecoresorts appeal to foreigners, not locals. So you will pay tourist prices. Unless you do it yourself, for example, there is a Parque Urbano Kabah in south central Cancun, but don´t know if they offer spa services. | 1
For interest: I do know a gringo who offers massages in Oaxaca, where he´s parked his van for the time being. He accepts donations for his services, and I remember him telling me his customers pay 100 MXN or so. I suppose he would fall into that gray area between high priced tourist services and low priced local services. But if you want authentic, don´t you want Mexican? | 2
Indigenous women give great massages and wraps at the Ixchel Jungle Spa (not a resort) in Puerto Morelos. They are not expensive but not terribly cheap. | 3
who offers massages in... his van for the time being. Oh! This "eco friendly spa" does not sketchy in the slightest. I suggest that ecoresorts appeal to foreigners, not locals Really? Mexicans love them too... there are tons in and (especially) around Mexico City. It's more a question of class than nationality. Those who are into that kinda thing are usually able to pay, big time. https://www.mexicodesconocido.com.mx/hosteria-las-quintas-eco-spa.html | 4
Spa services in Cancun and nearby will almost certainly be catering to tourists ... national and foreign (mostly foreign) ... and priced accordingly. However, to broaden the audience that sees your question(s) and elicit a larger number of responses ... my suggestion is that in addition to the responses you're reading here, you cross-post your the questions to online forums such as YoListo and Trip Advisor Cancun Forums.
