Eating Vegetarian in East AfricaCountry forums / Africa / Uganda
I plan to spend a few weeks traveling in East Africa (mostly Uganda, but also Rwanda, and possibly Tanzania) in January. I'll likely join a safari during this time. I am vegetarian and I wonder how much of a challenge this will likely be for me.
it won't be a problem (though some of the locals might think you're very strange!). Very easy traveling on your own, if you're organising a group tour, just let them know in advance | 1
Thankfully Indians have also set up shop in this part of the world and where you find Indians you can easily find vegetarian foods. | 2
I am a vegetarian too and visit Uganda and the country regularly. Plenty fresh fruit and vegetables - better than I can get here in South Africa. You will be pleasantly surprised, you wont starve. enjoy | 3
Hi asb I'm also a veggie and have rarely had trouble in East Africa eating meatless food. A lot of the locals eat veggie as meat is expensive. I will also be in Rwanda in Jan. Hope my menu guides below help | 4
I found more veggie options in East Africa than home in Canada. No one thought I was strange for not eating meat. Just be sure to inform people when booking an overnight trip that you don't eat meat so they are prepared for you. East Africa spawned a love of curry in me that I didn't know I had. | 5
omg, it;s a joke | 6 | |
