Duty free

Can anyone tell me if you can spend Syrian Pounds on duty free goods at the airport in Damascus.
Some middle eastern airports only accept US $ for booze and fags. Ta

I think you can just pay in US dollars or euro since you are not supposed to have siryan pounds outside sirya, and the duty free is like international place....I mean, the duty free is after the boarding controls...

at least you couldn't in 2005. You can try to change your remaining SP back to USD or Euro on the black market.

yeah you can use syrian lira. i used syrian lira at the airport. i bought fridge magnets!!! the price for the magnets according to one of the sales agents was at first 200 syrian lira , than became 250 syrian lira. i paid him 150 syrian lira . told him thats all i have and he just pocketed it.
anyway , yeah try to finish your syrian liras there .......the shops are quite okay , the have all souvenirs and also some coffee shops.

At Aleppo airport and the land duty free coming into Syria from Jordan, you could only use dollars or euros for fags, booze and electronic devices, etc, Syrian pounds were only accepted at cafes.
