Dumb Syrian visa question

Country forums / Middle East / Syria

I have a multiple entry Syrian visa that says that it's good for a 15 day stay. That's 15 days per entry, right? Not 15 days from date of first entry.

Hi, as far as I understand your passport has to be stamped every 15 days, it's a way for the government to keep caps on tourists.

Good luck!

With a multiple entry visa every time you renter Syria you have 30 days stay and not 15.If you are likely to stay longer than 30 days you need to go and register at passport office you get extention up to 2 months.

2

You have a 15-day transit visa. This means you have 15 days in Syria starting from the date that you entered.

#3:"You have a 15-day transit visa" - no. It says "Type - entry", and "No. of entries - multiple" and "Duration of stay - 15 days".

With your multiple entry visa you can enter Syria within 6 month as often as you like. Coming in over land, you have to apply for residancy within 15 days, if you want to stay longer than 15 days. If you leave the country within the 15 days and come back again, you have again 15 days with the same proceedure.

If you come in to Syria through the airport of Damascus and leave by land (to Libanon e.g.) you have to apply for residency within 30 days. Coming back from Libanon then you have again 15 days.

If you come in to Syria through the airport of Damascus and leave by the airport, then you have to apply for residency within 45 days. So coming by plane, you don't need to do anything, if you leave the country within this 45 days.

Jussef explained the visa issue in details. The residancy (Ikameh) is often confused with visa matter. For long term visitors and students usualy you are given a 2 months extension at a time for Ikameh every time you apply.

Just to add to Jussef's explanation: basically after the first 15 days you need to apply for an 'extension'. Getting it was actually one of my more memorable experiences in Syria, which is not problematic or difficult. It'll probably come with a little bit of waiting and lots of tea and conversation.
