Drum Solos

Interest forums / Culture Vultures

Whatever happened to them? I miss them. The band would disappear backstage to go and do whatever it is they do when they unleash the stickman. Roll a joint, suck on a bottle of Jacks, get a blowjob, whatever.

Bands these days just don't cut it.

My nomination for the best drum solo ever.

This is mine
And I liked drums in this, from 3:13

1

It doesn't get any better than this...especially in TACOMA

2

I love the early Santana. He is a genius, but I haven't really liked much of the stuff he has done recently.

3

There are several drummers in the Santana piece. A latin percussion ensemble isn't my idea of a drum "solo"

Nothing wrong with a good percussionist who can hold your attention as well as any other musician with their intricate and subtle rhythms and textures. Like Aberdeen's own Evelyn gLennie, or Max Roach

The problem was the plodding heavy rock and blooze groups who began to think they were some kind of virtuoso musicians, especially the tub-thumpers, and slack-jawed dope-fuddled audiences who let them get away with this shit.

4

So the deaf woman wants us to believe she reads puppet lips? Pfft. At least the great Tommy Lee is playing for grown ups...in TACOMA.

5

Our Evelyn actually hears through her thighs, as she has demonstrated many times

6

That Tommy Lee is quite a talent

He could teach this guy a thing or two...

Check out the animal in this guy

8

One of my favorites.

Drum solos are self indulgent crap. I love Cream but Ginger Baker's 10 minute solo on Toad makes me want to destroy my speakers.

11

Another.

From about 2:50. Not that you should miss any of Paul Desmond.

12

Did Dave Brubeck make the other guys wear spectacles for the sake of image, or were they actually short-sighted?
