Driving up the west coast

Country forums / Australia, New Zealand & Antarctica / Australia

Hey, all,
We're planning our WA trip from Perth north and having a car hire problem. It seems all one way rentals require a rather exorbitant $1,300 drop off fee; at least the major rental companies.

Is anyone aware of an economical one way car hire between Perth and Exmouth?

Any help would be great!

No..... sadly not - it's because of the distance. Why not fly? It might be cheaper, then hire a car there to explore....

Many thanks for the confirmation and advice. We plan to drive south to Margaret River then north as far as Denham so we can see, hike, swim as much of the coast as possible. Well then fly to Exmouth to catch Ningaloo. Then fly to Broome, drive the GRR out to Fitzroy Crossing before the full moon back in Broome. Again, many thanks for the response!

Sounds good, except you'll have to fly to Exmouth from Perth I would think.... and there are no longer flights between Exmouth and Broome.

What time of the year are you planning this? The GRR is impassable for months of the year, between October/November time and April/May, due to the wet season.

Yup, we leave for Melbourne this Friday. We will indeed fly to Learmonth from Perth. Then fly to Broome via Perth. Price wasn't too outrageous. We'll be in Broome/Derby by 18 March so hopefully not too wet yet for the short GRR loop.
Cheers.
