Driving!

Country forums / Australia, New Zealand & Antarctica / Australia

I am going to Australia in a few weeks and unfortunately have just failed my driving test. I am hoping I can resit before I leave but if not, do I need to retake lessons when I get to Australia? Or can I just sit a test when I am over there? I really hope I don't have to do lessons again. Thanks x

It varies slightly from State to State as licences r State based - in NSW you will have to do a knowledge test on road rules - get a learners permit - maybe do 120hrs log book practice then i can sit for licence test. If you are over 25 dont have to do logbook. How old r u? Do u have learner log books in UK?

Its going to be far easier to get your license at home first. If you come to australia you are liekly going to need to do the whole learners permit from scratch regardless of state. Most of them are fairly onorous with regards to time and require a licensed driver with you at all times. I don't think many states allow you to just sit the test any more.

I am waiting on cancelations for tests at home so I can do it in the UK but I was just wondering in case that doesn't happen. Hopefully I can pass before I leave as I won't be able to afford lessons when I am over there. Thanks x

Are you moving there permanently or going on holiday and want to be able to hire a car?
