Do you like Lao Beer?Country forums / South-East Asia Mainland / Laos
Because I saw an interesting blog post about the subject as viewed through the eyes of a jaded expat. http://stufffalanglike.wordpress.com/2013/01/29/7-beerlao/
Notice I flipped the words around to the English way? I even say it to rhyme with ear. ເບຍຫຼາຍ
It's not as good as Tusker :) | 1
why not beer Lao is one of the worlds finest beers. | 2
Its better than Tusker. I agree with Monty. | 3
Gotta say its one of my favorites from the region, beats virtually all the others hands down....I do have a strange fondness for Klang though. | 4
I think it is drinkable, but I also like Kingdom. And Whitecap is much better than Tusker. | 5
Worth smuggling a case of it over the border now and then. Otherwise pay steep import duty to Thailand. Restaurant price 75b small bottle, meanwhile in Laos big bottle for half the price. It's the only regional beer I refuse to drink on ice. Cheers / Snob Bob | 6
I like Beerlao, but, ya, I spend some wads at Chokdee too... | 7
I like Beerlao Dark adulterated with a little coke to sweeten it as it has a stronger flavour, although the standard lager is fine for general supping. | 8
Black Panther | 9 | |
Beer and Coke??? Generations of German and Belgian beer brewers are spinning in their graves;-) | 10
Black Panther is good. | 11
Black Panther, now there's a mans drink! | 12
No doubt, my vote is 100% BeerLao - an excellent brew crafted by Frenchmen listening to Germans - Tusker -yuk -. Am so committed I carefully handlaunder my BeerLao Tee shirt. | 13
"Marveled at the size of the bottles" Haven't they ever seen a 22oz bomber before?? Prefer Beer Lao Dark over the lager. Luckily I'm able to get both at my local Thai restaurant here in San Diego. | 14
BeerLao is okay. Bottled is a lot better than the draught. | 15
I enjoy Beerlao, especially out of a large bottle when very cold. If I'm having just one, I'll drink Beerlao Dark in the 330ml bottles. | 16
"Beer and Coke??? Generations of German and Belgian beer brewers are spinning in their graves;-) " I was thinking the exact same thing! | 17
For Australians on these forums, I have been able to get Beerlao in 330ml bottles at Dan Murphy's. Bloody expensive though. The first time I saw Beerlao was in a small bottleshop in a little town called Berry between Wollongong and Nowra, about 30 minutes from home. This was in 2005 or 2006. I was cruising through the town on my motorbike when I saw the Beerlao sign. I raced home, grabbed a couple of Beerlao t-shirts I brought home with from my last trip to Laos. I gave the bottleshop owner a couple of t-shirts and got a couple of cases at a very discounted price. The guy was telling me he couldn't get enough Beerlao in stock, the locals loved the brew. I haven't seen it there since. | 18
#10 & #17 Blame it on my brother. He introduced me to it many years ago in Germany where they mix Altbier with coke and call it an Alt-Schuss in the region where he lives. Does work well though. Just don't add too much coke unless you want it really sweet. Go on, give it a try :-) | 19
archluva, mixing coke with beer was popular when I grew up in Kenya. However, it was only the hookers that would drink it;-) | 20
I'll vote for Beer Lao over any of the brands mentioned in the article and I'll vote for Dark Beer Lao over regular, though I enjoy the regular stuff when it's really hot out, or I'm watching my funds since your beer kip goes a lot further with the regular. Sad to see that one of my favorite Isaan joints in NYC doesn't carry Beer Lao anymore, though it would have been hard to pay $6 for a small bottle. | 21
Beerlao is better than most of the other "national" Asian brands. However, it is never a beer I would go out of my way to purchase. But I live in a city with 15 breweries all making great craft beer with flavor, so I am quite content with my situation. But...Beerlao is a good one for SE Asia. | 22
