Diving the Mediterranean in winter

Interest forums / Diving & Snorkelling

Has anyone dove the mediterranean sea in winter? If yes, where, any recommendation? How cold does the water get?

In Malta during the winter, most of the dive shops are still open...water temperature is about 16-17 degrees - usually dived in full wetsuit with hood.. not cold enough for a dry suit to be essential. The water is a lot clearer during the winter and the divesites are a lot less crowded. I usually make a habit of diving in malta over christmas

I've been diving the Med all year round for ages. January thru April the water is at its coldest(March-April brrrr)sometimes down to 12°/13°.Sometimes you can have the odd 10°.Usually between 14°/16°

You can dive in Medes Islands (national park), close to barcelona, spain. The water was 16º a week ago and it was not so crowded. You can get low cost flight fares with ryanair, they fly to girona that is about 30 min by car. There are many diving schools that are open all year round.
