Diving in Dahab

Interest forums / Diving & Snorkelling

Hi there,

Just looking for some advice on good dive outlets in Dahab. I have checked the Thorn Tree as well as padi.com and there are loads to choose from. The ones I'm currently looking at are:

1) Aqua divers
2) Big Blue Dahab
3) Desert Divers
4) Fantasea Divers

Does anyone have experience with these companies? Are there other places I should consider? Price is not really an issue...

I am limited with time and will only be able to fit in 2 dives so recommendations on dive sites would be helpful as well. I am only OW certified so am limited to the depths I can go.

Many thanks in advance!

There are a lot of dive centres in Dahab, some much better than others. I do not know Aqua Divers, and I lived in Dahab for two years, so can't give you any opinion on them. But all the other dive centres you mentioned are good. Also good are Poseidon, Sinai Divers and Sea Dancer. If you stick with one of these than you will have a great dive experience.

Go with Desert Divers & dive Bells to Blue Hole & Canyon.

Hey,I was in Dahab in March,I dove with Fantasea and I stayed at "their" hotel,Coral Coast or Coral Beach can't remember.I highly reccomend the DC as well as the hotel.Nice clean rooms, some with balcony with great views of Saudi Arabia,38eu.for a single,it's very close to "central Dahab"without being crowded and noisy, with a 5 min.walk you are in the middle of the action if that's what you want. You roll off bed and drop into the dive center, well, the restaurant for breakie first.
The DC boss,Tom Steiner,is a great guy and the rest of the staff too.
As for the dive sites, well,I went for technical so I always dived well beyond the OW limits. To me it was fantastic diving. But there's no point in doing the Blue Hole if you cannot do the arch (it starts at around 55mt.they do it only on trimix). The Canyon was probably one of my best dives ever (but again we went deep).Anyways,I think it's possible to do it at OW depths ,so go for it!

Did my Advnaced, rescue and Divemaster with Fantasea - can't recommend them enough. You won't be able to do Bells toBlue Hole as you are only OW diver and this is a multi level deep dive. I woud prehaps recommedn the Islands, Eel Garden (as long as the current is ok) or Coral garden (ie over the top of the Canyon (as cannot go in). Even the Lighthouse reef to be honest is good for an OW diver. I wouldn't really say there are bad sitesin dahab although I found 3 pools and Golden Blocks a bit boring.

Hi!

I would highly recommend Aqua Divers.
The centre was opened 2 years ago. Very serious.

If you are open water I would not recommend Canyon and Blue Hole as they are too deep and for experienced divers. Islands and Eel Garden are beautiful sites.
Have fun,
J

Dove with Fantasea about 4 years ago (that is before the time they work with the Coral hotel and still owned a little dive camp right behind their dive shop).
100% positive! Diving fine, courses good (did our OW there), athmosphere excellent, location nice, people relaxed and....4 years ago it was one of the cheapest in town, surely in combi with their own dive camp where we stayed, the 3 of us in a room for 15$ a night or even less...very practical: on 'just awake stumbling distance' from the dive club beach housereef (Lighthouse which was ok).
