DIVING and ACCOMODATIONS IN the BAY ISLANDS, HondurasInterest forums / Diving & Snorkelling
Hola, My boyfriend and I have been traveling in Costa Rica since April and recently decided to end our Central American adventure with a ten day trip to the bay islands. We were thinking UTILA. I am planning on getting PADI dive certified and he will be doing an advanced open water certification. I wanted to see if anyone has any GREAT recomendations for dive shops to use or fun, clean, reasonably priced places to stay. I would love to hear about your experience and or recomendations. also we are getting in on a flight into San Pedro at 9pm from Costa Rica. SO we will have to spend the night there, in spite of the dark cloud that travel guides hang over the city, so if anyone has any suggestions about safe, airport convienant places to stay there for that first night that would be welcomed as well. Gracias por todo!
I went to the Roatan last November and had a great time. The little town of West End is an easy ride from the airport, is really really cheap, and has a great dive atmosphere. I can't remember the name of the place we stayed but it's easy to find. If you take the main (sand) road through west end, it's across from the Sundowner/Sunsetter bar. It has it's own dive shop with great instructors, two boats, and dives are around $25/dive or $150/10 dives. The hotel is made up of several shared cottages with hammocks. They're sort of rustic, but are nestled in the forest just a few steps from the beach, and have all the ammenities you'll need. Cost is about $25 per night. The ambiance is great in West End, lots of divers, and it really feels like the end of the road. The local crowd is pretty wild, but they're really welcoming and we made several friends while there. Hope this helps. | 1
