Deir ez Zur

Country forums / Middle East / Syria

I am trying to find Deir ez Zur (Deir Ezzor)on my Syria map in LP - Middle East.. It gets mentioned in the book.

There are Deraa and Ezraa marked separately at the southern border with Jordan. Is that the same place? If it is it's perfect for me, because Europcar will allow me to drop a hire car there. Even Europcar's website can't do me a map!!

Otherwise - how can I go from Damascus to Bosraa on to the border with Jordan, to get to Amman by nightfall?

You're looking in quite the wrong place. Deir ez Zor is on the Euphrates, about two thirds of the way along its Syrian course from the Turkish to the Iraqi border.

post #1 explaibed well Deir Alzure

On the way from damascus to Amman Taxi dsnt stop at Bosra. You need to take a servic macrobus to Bosra just over one hour, then you take a taxi i guess back to the main Highway Dmascus Ammman.at that point you might have to wait to get a lift about 10 Km to the border with Jordan and again you have to find another lift from border to Amman. You could be waiting for hours .the other option you return to damascus Jordan Taxi garage Al somariya and take a shared taxi to Amman for the cost of around USD 10

Thanks ! At least that's cleared up the location.

It doesn't sound too practical to get from Damascus to Bosra then on to the border (Deraa) and to Amman in a day. I may have to knock this idea on the head.

Sadly I don't have time to spend the night in Bosra/Deraa and move on the next morning, and I don't particularly want to leave Damascus early. :(

Thanks for your help, all

I disagree, Damascus - Bosra - Deraa - Ramtha - Amman is quite possible in a day. I've done this previously with a 2/3 hour stay in Bosra. Bosra really isn't far from Deraa (maybe 45mins micro) and from there it's possible to get a service taxi just over the border to Ramtha for another one onto Amman.
