Damascas Hotels (Afamia)

Country forums / Middle East / Syria

Hello,

Has anyone stayed in the Afamia Hotel in Damascus very recently - in the past couple of weeks or months?
In what currency were you quoted the price of your room?

I have been quoted a price of €40 (~USD56) for a single room, whereas I was expecting pricing along the lines of that quoted in the latest edition of LP Syria and Lebanon, and in some the posts in this thread; i.e., somewhere in the range USD30-40.

cheerio,
sean.

I havent personally stayed at the Afamia but I can confirm living here in Syria that the prices of everythign are going through the roof rapidly, which is probably why you were quoted a different rate than in LP.

If you are looking for a room around $40 USD with service and cleanliness better than any of the more expensive hotels I beleive damascushostel.com is still around that price. You can book through them as well online still I beleive.

There are still other cheaper rooms in Damascus, if you browse the board you will find plenty of names.

Take care

Hey,
I stayed at the hotel Afamia, and thought it was an excellent place to stay. Good location and very friendly staff.
I paid 35 euros per night for the executive room (6 weeks ago) - which are the newly renovated rooms and that are very comfortable.
Be aware also that the value of the Euro has dropped also 10 percent in the last 2 weeks (was 70 syrian pounds, now is 64), which does account for some of the difference in the price i paid.

Hope this is helpful

We have been staying at Afamia in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2007 - always a pleasant experience, but after they have started renovating ( part of ? - their rooms, the quality level is even better, if you choose for an 'executive room'.

But the prices have apparently gone up considerably : we paid in September 2007 for an executive room USD. 41,- for 2, + USD. 3, for a breakfast/person !...
