Cycling Indian Himalaya September 2014Interest forums / On Your Bike
Hi everyone, I am looking for a companion for my trip to the Indian Himalayas. I live in Poland and unfortunately do not have enough time to cycle all the way there and back, so the plan is to fly to Delhi at the end of August, then take a train to Simla and start the actual ride from there. I have approximately 5 weeks to spend and have to be back home at the beginning of October. Would love to see Ladakh and Kashmir but am generally flexible. Hoping to hear back from you, Kasia.
Hey YD We're flying out of Warsaw Mid June to Delhi to cycle Round Srinigar up to Leh and then Spiti. Have done some of it before but never Srinigar. You may be better to catch one f the many buses that go to Chandigarh for the start of your ride. Look me up on crazyguyonabikes Fred | 1
Hi Yellowdevil Sorry I can't help you with a companion but can I make a recommendation about your route. I faced the problem of limited time when I did this route a couple of years ago. I decided to fly into Leh (jet airways, excellent) and then rode over the Tanglang La (not going over the Rotang La) into the awesome Spiti and then Kinnaur valleys, arriving in Shimla four weeks later. The "toy train" from Shimla to Kalka was also a highlight of the trip, followed by another train to Delhi. This option allows you to linger in the ladakh for a while if you like. Don't forget to include a couple of days for acclimatisation when you arrive in Leh. In fact I can make a recommendation for a companion... The only companion you need is Laura Stone's amazing book Himalaya by Bike. Well worth lugging up the La! Jase E. | 2
