| navyhelene117:51 UTC15 Jul 2007 | Hello, my partner and I are travelling to Hvar at the end of August and, as neither of us drive, we were hoping to hire push bikes to see the other towns on the island and to discover beaches etc.... I have no concept of whether cycling around Hvar is realistic, does anyone have any experience in it? Thanks

Hvar is long (about 80km) and slim island. So you can't really go around. But there is a road across island of course. You can cycle it and return more or less the same way. It also has quite some ups and downs. Most of the time you'll have to take some graveled road to drop down to beaches since the road goes about 100-300m above sea level.
Bye, Gogi

You can take a bus to Stari Grad if you are staying in Hvar. I've heard there is a path from Stari Grad to Jelsa that would make for nice and presumably flat cycling. If you are really into cycling, you should check out pedala. I'd find a really good road map too--maybe viamichelin would be helpful.
This interactive map produced by the Hvar tourist page will help you pinpoint where you want to go.
