Current Weather in Cuzco, Urubamba VAlley

Country forums / South America / Peru

Hey there...

I am travelling to Cuzco, Urubamba Valley, Ollantaytambo... In August... I am hearing conflicting reports about the weather now. It is supposed to be sunny, Dry weather, ... you know summerish. Then I am hearing that it is in a state of emergency, very cold, bla bla.... Can anyone there, who is THERE NOW.. can you please tell me, what is your take on the weather? I am taking my 5 year with me...thank you....I know the weather can change form now until August but...

I was there 4 days ago. Highs were 65F with lows around 40F I had a fleece jacket and stayed warm. I'm warm natured too. It never rained for my two weeks there. Lima was humid and damp making it feel colder at night.

August is winter. While this time period is high season, remember your near the equator and the summers are wet and warm and winters dry and colder. This is only a generalization as it also depends on location such as coastal/inland and elevation.

I returned from Peru on Saturday (6/23).

I found the temps to be cool during early morning (up until about 10:00 am), and then the warmth of the sun would kick in and temps would start to rise. Midday could feel quite warm, especially if trekking around ruins (fortress in Ollantaytambo) or doing alot of walking. By end of the day and certainly when sun sets, the temps start dropping. As for the lows (temps in 40's), you won't experience that low until maybe 8:30 pm or later .....

I live in N. Texas and found the chillier temps to be refreshing. I didn't perceive the cooler temps as especially frigid. If you're coming from a warmer or tropical climate, then a hat/scarf will be helpful in warding off the chill. AND since these woolen items are plentiful and inexpensive in Peru, you'll have no difficulty finding something for you & your little person.
