CUN- avoidance of double entry stamp

Country forums / Cuba / Cuba

A friend just returned to the US from the island via CUN. He saw that a group of Americans was whispering to/discussing with a Mexican immigration official. When he asked them what was going on they told him that they had agreed to pay USD 100.-/pax to avoid the stamp. The official had informed them that since cameras had been installed to supervise the goings on in the booths, the price for the service had gone up dramatically because now they guys doing the controlling had to get a piece of the action as well.
I tend to agree with the many posters who think that stamp avoidance at this cost is probably overkill, but for the paranoid among us this seems to be the deal now.

I bet those guys at Mexican immigration are loving the paranoia, too. I have never heard of anyone being asked about entry stamps!!

I don't recall ever seeing a post on this board where "double entry stampls" from Cancun has ever reported to be a problem...

USD$100 to a Immigration official iun Cancun is kindof basically stupid... for the sdame money you could exit and spend the day in Cancun, get a few real meals, and get back to leave Cancun the following day... all for the same $100...

Jajajajaja, got to love Mexican immigration! Those guys will be celebrating that little win for months!

Sorry, after posting I just thought of the little ditty: "A fool and his money.............."

Never been asked about any entry stamps. This is paranoia gone way overboard. I recently addressed this issue in depth in my blog

5

Do not ever give a Mexican official even a penny for your paranoia.

I have to agree with the majority of the other posters on here that it's not worth it to feed the paranoia. I see the bribes as a total waste of money.

I came back from Cuba last month with a clear double entry stamp on the same page of my passport and no issues whatsoever. Immigration is busy trying to process plane loads of people and I doubt they have the time or ambition to reconcile the dates and stamps in every passport... UNLESS you give them some reason to be suspicious.

7

I travel often and sweat sometimes makes the dates on passport stamps hard to read.

I can't imagine what accidently spilling a beer would do.
