Cuba Celebrates International Women's Day with a smile

How is it possible that we managed to let this yet divisive celebration pass without special note or comment here. Even more germane, how is it that Fido the younger let it pass without having a Rice Cooker brain fart - like his Big Brother?

Cuba Celebrates International Women's Day with a smile Cuban women celebrated yesterday the International Women’s Day with the satisfaction of being part of a society that stands out for its rights, said Yolanda Ferrer, General Secretary of the Cuban Women Federation.

This year, the date coincides with a UN's General Assembly conference promoting equality of gender and the empowering of women.

UN's Cuban official Rodrigo Malmierca expressed at the meeting his concern over the fact that women in the world are the most frequent victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, forced prostitution and AID's.

Meanwhile, Yolanda Ferrer told the Cuban News Agency that women in the world are also victims of the lack of the political will of governments which do not enforce laws allowing social, economic and juridical empowerment of this sector of the population.

In contrast with that situation, the women’s leader said in Cuba all social factors are based on equality of gender. She mentioned as some of the achievements of the Cuban revolution that 46 percent of the labor force in the civil sector in the country are women, as well as 48.9 of all scientific researchers and 63.3 percent of university graduates are women.
